Georgia star receiver A.J. Green was suspended by the NCAA for four games on Wednesday for selling a bowl jersey for $1,000 to someone who qualifies as an agent. Green sold his jersey from last season's Independence Bowl. The junior, who sat out the season-opening 55-7 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette, must miss three more games before regaining his eligibility, according to the ruling from the NCAA.

Long-time hobby figure Bill Mastro, the former head of Mastro Auctions, will sell his sports memorabilia collection later this year. Bill MastroLegendary Auctions, which is run by some of Mastro’s former colleagues, announced Sept. 8 that it would put the collection up for auction in December. No mention was made of why Mastro has decided to liquidate.

The NFL has launched its “Back to Football 2010 Kickoff Charity Auction” in support of the New Orleans Saints Gulf Coast Renewal Fund. The NFL is offering unique experiences and autographed memorabilia from some of the league’s top stars, including Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees and Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre, who will face off Sept. 9 in the league’s season opener.

On Aug. 26 afternoon, a pool report from the President’s vacation in Martha’s Vineyard contained a line about POTUS taking an envelope from an unidentified man. “One man, standing at the edge of the yellow police tape, handed the President something (it looked like a maroon 8.5x11 folder but pool was too far away to tell.) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has filed a lawsuit against Upper Deck over what he claims is the unauthorized use of images featuring his likeness. The Hall of Fame center says Upper Deck’s “Greats of the Game” series includes cards that he didn’t authorize.
