On April 24, Sotheby’s and SCP Auctions will offer a fine selection of sports memorabilia and cards highlighted by The Bill Nowlin Bat Collection that was formerly exhibited at the Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame in Tampa. Among the many significant bats set to hit the auction block from Nowlin’s collection is the only known “Shoeless” Joe Jackson signature model “Black Betsy” game bat dating from his major league career (presale estimate $200,000-$300,000).

The owner of the baseball Barry Bonds hit for his last home run to set the all-time major league record announced at a March 13 news conference that he has enlisted the services of SCP Auctions to present the ball in an online auction March 31-April 12. SCP Auctions officials have predicted that the selling price of the No. 762 ball could approach $1 million.

Jameson Sutton, 24, of Boulder, Colo., said the online auction of the Bonds home run ball No. 762 will take place at www.scpauctions.com. Sutton’s family has been Colorado Rockies season ticket holders since the team’s inception in 1993. 

Heritage Auction Galleries will present the helmet worn by Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath during his heroic Super Bowl III underdog victory in their upcoming May 3rd Signature sale to be held in Dallas, Texas.

Heritage Auction Galleries, the Dallas-based auction house that’s been largely recognized for offering quality autographs and memorabilia for four years, is starting to beef up its card lots in recent sales, and according to Heritage’s Sports Division auction director, Chris Ivy, its upcoming May Signature sale will host the largest card selection yet – with help from a T206 Honus Wagner and an impressive find of Mint 1915 PM1 pins.

Ivy said that Heritage’s PM1 pins are some of the nicest ever to hit the auction block.
