Cachets, autographs headline Clean Sweep Auction

Clean Sweep Auctions’ Affordable Autograph and Memorabilia auction closes Dec. 14-15. Virtually every item in the auction has a minimum bid of $100 or lower, but don’t assume low minimum bids means a lack of quality items.

“We have a big run of Gateway cachets, including many of the scarce issues,” said Clean Sweep’s Steve Verkman. “We have Satchel Paige, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams, among others, all being offered as singles.”

Jackie Robinson and Connie Mack autographs are available on government-issued post cards in this auction, which features roughly 500 autographed baseball items, including more than 60 team-signed balls from as far back to the 1935 Cubs and White Sox and spanning every decade through the mid-1990s. There are also dozens of items from football, hockey and boxing.

Verkman said an auction of more high-profile items will take place in January. That event closes Jan. 25. “That’s traditionally one of our best auctions of the year,” he said. “Part of that is the quality of the items we always put in that auction, but the other factor is there aren’t a lot of big auctions going on in late January.”
