Stephen Strasburg is living up to the hype on the diamond and he might be exceeding it in the sports card hobby. Another one-of-a-kind baseball card of Washington Nationals phenom pitcher has been listed on eBay and the bids are flying off the charts for a new card.
Initially posted with a Buy It Now price of $50,000, the 2010 Bowman Strasburg Red autograph card (a 1-of-1 card featuring the red border) — is sitting at $113,500 after 162 bids as June 24. The card was purchased by a collector in Melbourne, Fla. Bidders have until June 28 to get their bids in on the highly coveted card.
It was a few short weeks ago that a Topps SuperFractor shocked hobbyists and garnered national attention in the mainstream media around the country when a price of $16,403 was realized.
The SuperFractor had previously been listed on eBay with a $20,000 Buy It Now price tag but it did not sell at that price in mid-May. The SuperFractor sale set a record for that type of card. The card has been bid up to $21,200 as of June 24.
In Strasburg’s first three outings in the majors, he’s gone 15 1/3 innings with 41 strikeouts, five walks, and just five earned runs allowed.
