From rare signatures to high-grade singles, Clean Sweep Auctions is rolling out one of its best auctions to date in a sale that is live now and wraps up on June 3.
“The current auction is one of the very finest auctions that we have ever run,” said Steve Verkman of Clean Sweep. “In terms of physical size of the lots in the auction, this is very possibly the biggest auction that we have ever held, loaded with fresh material and top collections.”
The top lot is a cut signature of Frank Selee, one of only seven Selee signatures known to exist, according to JSA. Selee was the manager for the Boston Beaneaters (1890-1901), Chicago Orphans (1902) and the Chicago Cubs (1903-05). He died in 1909 at age 49 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Bidding is already past $7,000 at the time this was published.
The Selee signature will join a Babe Ruth single-signed ball (mid-grade); John McGraw signed, typed letter; and ball signed by Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri and Jim Bottemley among the high-end autographs in the auction lineup.
This lot will be joined by a 1934 Goudey No. 37 Lou Gehrig (SGC 7.5), 1968 Topps No. 177 Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman rookie (PSA 8), 1899 M101-1 Sporting News Cy Young, 1909 T206 No. 229 Walter Johnson (hand at chest, El Principe Gales back, SGC 6), 1895 N300 Mayo Cut Plug No. 2 Cap Anson (SGC 3) and a hoard of Upper Deck cards from 1989-2010 featuring N.Y. Mets, with 422 signed examples among the nearly 7,000 cards in the group.
All told, there are more than 250 graded baseball card lots in the auction.
Baseball cards, however, aren’t the only cards to chase in this auction. Clean Sweep will also offer these impressive singles:
– 1986 Fleer No. 57 Michael Jordan RC (BGS 9.5)
– 1954 Topps No. 8 Gordie Howe (PSA 8)
– 1957 Topps No. 55 Phil Jordan (PSA 9)
