According to Clean Sweep, “The baseball section of this auction is the best we have ever had, with a remarkable diversity of cards over a 100-year span. We have many rare prewar sets, extremely high-grade Topps sets and a world of regional issues.
“There are a remarkable 79 lots of just complete and near-complete sets, and then another 80 lots of great partial sets, group lots and collections that run the gamut and cover a great majority of popular card issues.”
With that, let’s get to the details.
The auction kicks off with a remarkable 1911 T205 complete set with an overall grade condition of VG-Ex/Ex. Forty-six of the cards are graded in this fresh-to-the-market set.
Other complete sets to keep an eye on include 1912 C46 Imperial Tobacco, 1913 National Game, 1913 T200 (all PSA graded), 1928 W502, 1931 Metropolitan Studios Cardinals with original envelope, 1933 DeLong and 1933 Goudey. There are many more complete sets in the auction, such as the 1933 R337 Eclipse, 1935 Schutter Johnson and 1941 Goudey. Another important category in the Clean Sweep auction is autographs, many on player documents. Examples in this category include Hank Aaron 1986 contract, Cap Anson 1918 contract, Home Run Baker’s last contract for 1921-22, Ted Lyon 1960 coach’s contract, Tony Perez 1980-82 player contract and an early-career Robin Yount signed player contract.
