Mile High Card Co. Auction Now Live: Check Out the Rare Singles

Mile High Card Co.’s Brian Drent has been in this hobby for some time. So when he talks about seeing cards for the first and gets generally excited about certain lots, you know collectors will want to bring out their wallets.

So what has Drent excited for Mile High’s current auction that ends Oct. 20? Why scarce cards, of course, as that is the company’s specialty.

Leading off the auction is a 1888 Yum Yum Tobacco N403 Cap Anson specimen, graded SGC 40.

“I’ve never even seen that card before,” Drent said. “Most advanced collectors hadn’t seen a copy of it and knew of its existence only because of checklists.”

Another rarity is a 1907 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet Ty Cobb graded PSA 3. Drent said only two graded examples exist in the hobby, and this one is in significantly better condition. He said a PSA 1 (MK) example sold for $31,000 and a SGC 1.5 Cobb brought $38,000.

Goudey uncut sheets from 1933 aren’t all that uncommon in the industry. However, the final production 24-card sheet in the Mile High sale is one for keeps. This sheet features the No. 53 Babe Ruth in yellow.

“There have been other uncut sheets, but to find it with the yellow Ruth on it, which is the most difficult of the four Ruth cards, is incredible,” Drent said.
Another definite highlight is a 1909-11 T206 Bill O’Hara in the St. Louis variation, graded PSA 7. Drent said the card is the highest graded example in existence and set registry collectors will be seeking it out. He said Mile High sold this to the current consignor 8-10 years ago, but he hasn’t seen an example like it since.

Other unique baseball singles in the auction include a pair of 1914 Cracker Jacks: Joe Jackson SGC 84 and a Christy Mathewson PSA 2. There is also a 1915 Cracker Jack Honus Wagner graded PSA 8. Another 10 1915 Cracker Jacks in the auction are graded PSA 9.

Postwar beauties in the auction include a 1948 Leaf Ted Williams SGC 8.5, 1951 Bowman Whitey Ford SGC 88 and a 1952 Andy Pafko SGC 88.
There’s also a 1956 Topps Baseball complete set with every card graded PSA 8 or better.

Memorabilia and other sports
If you collect panoramic photos, this is the auction for you.

“We have a nice group of panoramic photographs, highlighted by a 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates world championship panoramic featuring Wagner,” Drent said. “That’s a an incredible item. Until recently, there hadn’t been any of these seen.”

Game-used jerseys in the auction include a 1970 Rod Carew Minnesota example, a 1985 Walter Payton Chicago Bears jersey and an early 1980s Tony Dorsett Dallas Cowboys jersey.

Some rare hockey cards include 1951-52 Parkhurst examples of Maurice Richard SGC 96 and Terry Sawchuck, also SGC 96.

A 1953-54 Parkhurst Jean Beliveau SGC 98 is also in the lineup. “I don’t think there are any 9s of that card and 8s are difficult, so that card should do outstanding,” Drent said.
