Honus nearly hits $300,000 in Holy Grail Auction

mrhonus.jpgMemory Lane’s Holy Grail auction finished on Dec. 14 with some huge prices. The auction totalled more than $2.5 million, while the much-hyped Honus Wagner and Mickey Mantle cards both approached $300,000.

The 1909-11 T206 Wagner was graded PSA 2, but had much stronger eye appeal and bidders noticed. The card sold for $294,338 and finished with 99 bids.

Close behind was a 1952 Topps Mantle graded PSA 9. The card received 125 bids and finished at $282,588.

mrmantle.jpgAnother huge ticket item in this auction was a 1927 New York Yankees team photo signed by the entire team and graded PSA 8, sold for $206,800. The photo came from the estate of George Pipgras, a member of the 1927 team, and included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and the rest of the team, including the coaches, trainer, manager and even the batboy.
