Ty Cobb T206 With Cobb Back Drawing Heavy Bidding

There’s nothing like a little publicity to drive a little bit of attention to your auction business – just ask Goldin Auctions. Fresh off a $2.1 million sale of a T206 Honus Wagner card, the auction house was poised to sell a massive amount of Kobe Bryant memorabilia. That is, until Kobe got into a public tussle with his mom, who was the person who consigned the items to Goldin Auctions.

In the end, Goldin auctions still got some of the Kobe Bryant memorabilia (and a delayed auction), but as they say, it was worth the wait. The auction is now live, with bidding ending July 19 at www.goldinauctions.com.

In addition to the Bryant material, the auction has hundreds of other high-end lots that will keep collectors hitting the “bid” button.

One of the lead items is a Jackie Robinson game-used bat from his 1949 MVP season – the only known example from that year. The bat is graded PSA/DNA GU-9.

On the heels of a Robinson glove selling for more than $370,000, comes a game-used example from Yogi Berra. The Hall of Famer and wordsmith has the glove dating from 1947-49 in the auction, and the former catcher also signed the glove.

Another lot sure to be  bidding hotbed is a T206 White Border Ty Cobb with a Ty Cobb back. The card is graded PSA 1 and according to Goldin, is one of 12 known examples.

The popularity of the NBA 50 Greatest Players litho is well known, as even those players featured on the piece of artwork know its value, as another member of the group puts his own copy on the auction block – Hakeem Olajuwon.
