Lionel Carter collection sets stage for Mastro sal

When hobby pioneer Lionel Carter’s home was burglarized in November of 2006 the last thing on his mind was selling his famed vintage cards at auction. It’s funny how much a few months can make a difference. Carter got the majority of his collection back and now his cardboard gems are headlining Mastro Auctions’ April 2007 Premier Auction.

07mastromantle.jpgAlways a sale that serious collectors mark on their calenders, the 1,800-lot auction will focus on some nice autographs and game-used equipment, but let’s face it. The Carter collection is causing the greatest number of heads to turn, especially Doug Allen’s.

“Lionel Carter is one of the original card collecting pioneers,” said Allen, Mastro Auctions’ president. “His collection is like nothing I have ever seen. It is as though the cards he collected have been transported in time. They look as good as they did the day they came out of the packs.”
