When the dust settled at the conclusion of the most recent auction hosted by Bricol Sports Auction, it was game-used jerseys from current sports stars that gathered the most attention from collectors. Not surprisingly, game-used New York jerseys comprised a good portion of items which sold for the highest prices.
A Roger Clemens New York Yankees autographed game-used 2000 home jersey sold for $5,657. Game-used jerseys for two current Yankees, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, followed the Clemens jersey, but were outdone by a Mike Piazza 1998 New York Mets game-used home jersey.
The Piazza jersey sold for $3,000. The Riveria New York Yankees 2001 autographed and game-used home jersey sold for $2,811, while the Jeter Yankees game-used 2004 road jersey sold for $2,764.
Other highlighted MLB game-used jerseys and prices realized include: Edgar Renteria Boston Red Sox game-used 2005 alternate jersey – $1,020; Miguel Cabrera Florida Marlins game-used autographed jersey – $970; and a Clay Dalrymple Philadelphia Phillies circa 1968-69 game-used road flannel – $1,000.
The highest selling football item was a Sean Vanhorse San Diego Chargers 1994 game-used throwback jersey, which sold for $3,187. Not far behind was a Jerry Rice San Francisco 49ers 1985 game-used autographed rookie era road jersey selling for $2,795. Another former San Francisco 49ers player followed Rice, with a Steve Young 1995 NFC Pro Bowl game-used jersey selling for $1,728.
Other highlighted football items included: a Troy Aikman Dallas Cowboys 1999 autographed game-used Riddell helmet ($1,636); and a Hall of Fame/Stars quarterback autographed authentic Riddell helmet (27 signatures) sold for $805.
Not surprisingly, it was a LeBron James item that led the way for the basketball lots. A 2003-04 James Cavaliers game-used road jersey sold for $2,898. A Shaquille O’Neal Los Angeles Lakers 1998-99 game-used jersey sold for $1,750, while a Moses Malone Atlanta Hawks 1989 game-used home jersey sold for $1,180.
