Stars buying pieces of old Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium memorabilia

It’s not just fans looking to get a piece of Yankee Stadium history from Steiner Sports. Former New York Yankees star Jason Giambi bought his old locker for $50,000, and NFL analyst John Madden and Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis have bought stadium seats.

Others on the buying list of stadium memorabilia have included actor Richard Gere and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Even current Yankees stars Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui and Andy Pettitte have either already bought or have inquired about buying their old lockers, seats or other pieces of the stadium.

According to USA Today, Steiner has already passed $10 million in sales, with the top-selling item being 3-inch hunks of freeze-dried grass in display cases with an SRP of $99.99. Soon to be offered will be the black bleachers from the batter’s eye in center field where Reggie Jackson hit a 475-foot home run in the 1977 World Series. Jackson will autograph some of the pieces. Steiner’s Yankees Legends Auction will close July 26.
