Some of the fans attending this weekend’s NFL Draft were treated to limited-edition trading cards featuring seven first-round selections and the logos of their new NFL teams.
Panini America created 200 cards each of Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Michael Crabtree, Knowshon Moreno, Aaron Maybin, Percy Harvin and Chris Wells. Once the player was selected, a miniature team logo was embedded into the cards. Some of the cards were given away to fans who participated in a texting contest held in conjunction with Sprint. Other cards were distributed to players, their families and randomly to fans at the event.
“If we saw someone in the stands wearing the jersey of a team who picked the player, we’d given them a card,” said Joe White, football acquisitions manager for Panini. “We got mobbed on a couple of occasions because people were really excited to get one of the cards.” Some of the cards were already on eBay on Saturday evening.
