Ruth and Foxx balls headline Nov. Coach’s Corner a

A single-signed Babe Ruth National League baseball, a 1929 Philadelphia A’s team-signed ball and a Jimmie Foxx single-signed ball headline the list of items in the November Coach’s Corner Sports & Celebrity Auction.

The auction week will run Nov. 7-11, with online and fax bidding. Overall, there will be more than 3,000 items up for grabs.

The lead item is a baseball that has been in the family of professional women’s player Almaeda E. Bard of the Hollywood All-Stars. Ruth signed the ball for her while in the lobby of a Wilkes-Barre, Pa., hotel lobby in 1932, following an exhibition game in which they both took part.

The 1929 Philadelphia Athletics ball also comes from the Bard family and was acquired personally by her. It is an official American League ball with two-colored laces. There are 17-plus signatures in blue fountain pen ranging from 1-to-7. The ball contains Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx, Eddie Collins, Eddie Rommel and some very difficult ones like Bevo LeBourveau, Lefty Yerkes and Ossie Orwell, who saw limited A’s action that year.

Another item sure to attract the interest of A’s and Red Sox fans is a clean red-laced Foxx-signed Wilson Canadian American League ball. Coach’s Corner officials estimate the value of the ball at $8,000. A John F. Kennedy signed National League Harridge ball also is available in the auction. It is signed on the sweet spot by JFK with the added “U. S. Senate Mass.” The value is estimated at more than $9,200. Also from Camelot comes a JFK and Jackie-signed 1959 cachet.

Other interesting and important signed baseballs include a Mickey Mantle signed A.L. ball on the sweet spot with “536 HRs” added in his hand, an Al Simmons red-and-blue-laced practice ball, a Chuck Klein signed Rawlings red-laced ball, a Jackie Robinson signed Eastern League Spalding ball, a Roberto Clemente signed Worth red-laced ball, a Wahoo Sam Crawford single-signed 1950s PCL ball, a Goose Goslin N.L. (Giles) signed ball, a Harwood Pony League ball signed by Jimmie Foxx in black fountain pen, a Ruth signed MacGregor “Official 97 League” baseball and a Maris-Mantle signed Yankee ball circa 1978 with Mantle on the sweet spot and Maris on the side panel.
