Mile High Card Co. has successfully wrapped up an event-filled 2014 with its Premium catalog auction on Dec. 3, which delivered tremendous results and included many record prices realized. As has become customary for MHCC over the past few years, the auction offered a smaller lot size with select higher-level items.
“We’re always excited to end the year with a special event that features some of the best material in the hobby. Our consignors and bidders expect and demand nothing less, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!” said Mile High President and CEO Brian Drent.
The auction consisted of just over 500 lots, resulting in excess of $1 million in total sales. The grand prize of the event was a 1967 Topps #569 Rod Carew rookie card that, as the only specimen graded PSA 10, represents one of the single most important pasteboards of the 1960s. When the hammer dropped, the Carew RC shattered the world-record at $95,294, more than double the amount it sold for just two years ago.
Other significant sales include 1957 Topps #24 Bill Mazeroski RC PSA 10 at $21,721 (last recorded sale was $13,897), 1933 Goudey #2 Dazzy Vance PSA 8 at $16,214 (last recorded sale was $11,850), 1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax RC PSA 8.5 at $10,817 (last recorded sale was $6,000), 1965 Topps #16 Astros Rookies Joe Morgan PSA 10 GEM MINT (1 of 2 in existence at $10,496; last recorded sale was $8,896), 1966 Topps #288 Dodgers Rookies Don Sutton PSA 10 GEM MINT (1 of 2 examples at $10,163; last recorded sale was $7,918), 1935 Diamond Stars #54 Hank Greenberg PSA 9 MINT at $6,360 (last recorded sale was $4,163) and 1972 Venezuelan Stamps #184 Nolan Ryan PSA 1 at $3,264 (last recorded sale was $810).
